The “new” Hotel Ladera: reopening a first-rate hotel in Boquete
On March 26, David Carballeda celebrated the reopening of the Hotel Ladera in Boquete, located on the banks of the Caldera River. The event took place on a gorgeous day with Boquete’s beautiful scenery and perfect climate at their finest – and to top it off, on Mr. Carballeda’s birthday. Many members of the community and government officials attended as the Carballeda family celebrated the reconstruction and renovation of their hotel.
The Hotel Ladera first opened in the fall of 2008, shortly before historically heavy rains in Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro wrought devastation on communities throughout both provinces. In Boquete, the Caldera River overflowed its banks, taking out a bridge and washing out streets.

Over the past two years, the government has re-channeled the river back to its original course, now with stronger banks. Architect Luis Carballeda and his team have labored to rebuild, renovate and redecorate the hotel. The results are magnificent.
The new Hotel Ladera has an excellent restaurant overseen by French chef Christophe Giroud. There are twenty guest rooms, all exquisitely decorated by Teresa Pretelt de Hincapié. David has overseen every last detail. He has combined the works of an eclectic group of professionals and artists who have rebuilt the two-story hotel in a way that pays homage to the spirit of determination and adventure of the Carballeda family.
The experience of the new Hotel Ladera blends nature with the building and complements the casual and elegant environment of the town.
